The Homestead

Many homesteaders have to start from scratch. We were lucky enough to find a property that was ready to go. It almost feels like cheating. It's a small homesteaders dream.

We walked onto a property with a fully fenced food growing area. There are established fruit trees, berries, asparagus and rhubarb. A chicken coop, and a small barn. A root cellar, and inside the house, a summer/canning kitchen. Plenty of storage, both inside the house and outside in a huge garage and storage shed. We have a wood stove and a covered woodshed. Raised garden beds for vegetable growing. And then to add to the idyllic setting, there's the willow tree with a swing hanging from it.

All of this in the midst of the mountains...

In a place where the winters are neither too cold nor too windy.  And the snow that does fall is the soft, fluffy, sticky kind, that you can make into snowmen and snowforts.

This is why I called it Storybook Homestead. The homestead really did come right out of a storybook.
